The Greatest Wealth Is Health!

2013 Goals

It's been awhile since I have blogged on this site. Life, work, children etc.. sometimes will do that to you. I have missed blogging very much and have made that one of my goals this year to start back doing so. Every year people make a list of New Year's resolutions which are soon forgotten about. I few years ago I decided to drop the ritual of a New Year's resolution and write down goals.

Have you written down your goals? This year I sat down with my boys and along with writing down our own personal goals, we created a family vision board together. Ask your children what's they're vision for the family?  Habakkuk 2:2 says to write the vision and make it plain. As parents it's our job to prepare our children for adulthood. And what better way than with setting goals. What are you hoping for in 2013?

Living A Clutter Free Life

It's been awhile since I have written a post on my blog. Lately I have been thinking alot about being clutter free in my life, home, time and relationships.

What is Clutter?
  • A confused or disordered state or collection; a jumble
  • To fill or spread over in a disorderly manner:
  • To run or move with bustle and confusion.
  • To make disorderly or hard to use by filling or covering with objects

Therefore the clutter in our lives show as confusion, disorder, and jumbled.

Our homes are cluttered when we can't find things, and our closets and drawers are overflowing.
Out time is cluttered when we have to much to do on our to do list.
Our relationships are cluttered when we continue to hold on to toxic and dysfunctional people.
Our emotions are cluttered when we hold onto our past, unresolved issues and unforgiveness.

Clutter sucks all the life and energy out of us and it's time to take it back. Once you make the effort to sort through things and get rid of what does not serve any purpose in your life anymore, you will open up space around you to be filled with new and better things to make their way into your life.

Hebrews 12:1-2 states, “Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus”

No matter what state you have allowed your life to become, God is still for you, likes you, loves you and is willing to help you clean up the mess.

The Benefits Of Laughter

Laughter is one of the best gifts from God! Proverbs 17:22 says That a happy heart is a good medicine and a cheerful mind work healing. But a broken spirit dries up the bones. Have you ever been around someone that was laughing so hard and although you had not a clue what they were laughing about you started to laugh along with them? Laughter is contagious and the best kind of medicine. Research shows that laughter can improve your health. Laughter reduces stress hormones and stregthens the immune system. A recent study done by cardiologists at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore says that laughter, along with an active sense of humor, may help protect you against a heart attack. Science is just repeating what the Bible has already told us. Give your body a boost today with a little bit of laughter.

We tend to think that stress, depression, hypertension, cancer and many other diseases today destroy's our health. Although these have the ability to do so so does our thinking. Massage Therapy and Your Health

Massage therapy, one of the oldest holistic healing techniques has many physical, mental, and emotional benefits. Massage therapy loosen muscles, improves blood flow, reduces stress and anxiety levels. Experts estimate that 90% of disease is stress related. In today's society not only are adults suffering from stress but children as well. A study conducted at University of Miami Medical School revealed that massage may offer considerable help for children suffering from stress-related disorders. The results of the study revealed that the children receiving a 30 minute massage were less depressed or anxious and had lower saliva cortisol levels after the massage.

Another study conducted at the University of Miami School of Medicine's Touch Research Institute, found that massage is helpful in decreasing blood pressure in people with hypertension, alleviating pain in migraine sufferers and improving alertness and performance in office workers. Massages vary  from light stroking to deep pressure techniques as well as several types of massages to suit your needs. Listed below are several forms of massages to fit your need.

  • Swedish massage. This is a gentle form of massage that uses long strokes, kneading, deep circular movements, vibration and tapping to help relax and energize you.

  • Deep-tissue massage. This massage technique uses slower, more forceful strokes to target the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue, commonly to help with muscle damage from injuries.

  • Sports massage. This is similar to Swedish massage but is geared toward people involved in sport activities to help prevent or treat injuries.

  • Trigger point massage. This massage focuses on trigger points, or sensitive areas of tight muscle fibers that can form in your muscles after injuries or overuse.

  • Thai Massage. The focus is on increasing the blood circulation and massaging the energy lines or the sen (energy pathways)  along the body. According to the Thai massage philosophy, it is the blockage of these energy lines that is the major cause of ailments, chronic pain, diseases in the body.

  • Reflexology. Based on an ancient oriental massage technique, reflexology was first introduced by Dr. William Fitzgerald in 1913. The basic principle of this technique is that the reflexes in the hands and feet, correspond to every part, organ and gland in the body. So acupressure is applied to the ears, hands and feet within these same zones. This helped in detoxification, improved circulation and the ability of the body to heal its injuries and other ailments.

  • Hot-Cold Stone Therapy. One of the new massage therapy techniques used at spas and resorts, the hot/cold stone therapy uses smooth, heated and cooled stones to relieve body and muscle stiffness and soreness, and to restore vitality to the aching muscles and joints. This massage therapy relies on balancing the body's natural "chakra" by using warm basalt stones and cool sedimentary stones to unlock the energy and increase the blood circulation in the body.

  • Massages are no longer just available at spa's or upscale hotels. Massage therapy is offered in businesses, clinics, hospitals, chiropractor's and health clubs. Take some time to pamper yourself and relieve some stress and enjoy the wonderful benefits of a maasage today.
